On my most recent trip to Slough this Fall, I was able to fish one of Sage’s newest fly rods, “The Mod.” Utilizing Sages propriety Konnectic technology, the 9’ 4# Mod I fished was designed to be a “trout rod” capable of delivering flies accurately at “fishing distances,” not “casting distances.” Fishing large Fall Drake as well as tiny BWO patterns, I was impressed with this rod. Accurate casts were effortless, especially at those distances where most effective dry fly fishing takes place in the 15-30 foot range. Hook setting which can be an issue at times with softer rods was not an issue. All and all, this is a wonderful trout rod and quickly has become my favorite trout rod.
