SAGE MOD Fly Rod - Delicate Fly Presentations

Review by Mark Shimazu - Lower Slough Creek in Yellowstone National Park is a special place of unparalleled  beauty.  Nestled in fields of grass and sage brush, Slough Creek is home to some of the most beautiful trout in the lower 48.  Swimming in its insect laden waters are Rainbows, Cutthroats and Cuttbows of impressive sizes, but make no mistake, these wily fish require your full attention to fool them and it doesn’t hurt to have some the best flies and equipment to aid you!

On my most recent trip to Slough this Fall, I was able to fish one of Sage’s newest fly rods, “The Mod.” Utilizing Sages propriety Konnectic technology, the 9’ 4# Mod I fished was designed to be a “trout rod” capable of delivering flies accurately at “fishing distances,” not “casting distances.” Fishing large Fall Drake as well as tiny BWO patterns, I was impressed with this rod.  Accurate casts were effortless, especially at those distances where most effective dry fly fishing takes place in the 15-30 foot range. Hook setting which can be an issue at times with softer rods was not an issue.  All and all,  this is a wonderful trout rod and quickly has become my favorite trout rod.  Stop by the shop and give it a shot!
